| Rudolf Steiner spoke about education as being an art and the teacher being an artist. In a Waldorf schools all subjects are approached in a way that makes them live in the minds and hearts of the children.
This artistic awareness pervades everything from drawing and poetry to geometry and technology. Here are a few examples of the work our talented learners produce.

Poetry
|
| The ability to express oneself, to communicate effectively, is of paramount importance to modern life. In teaching an English Writing and Poetry main lesson
we need to hold this in mind. Poetry of differing structures, for example, the Haiku, Sept, Cinquain, Tanka, enable students to play with words and see how they fit together. However, on a deeper level, we need to realise that poetry and expressive writing
assist the students to understand their moments of inner turmoil and enables them to express their emotional highs and lows.

PIT
OF DESPAIR
As the moon cannot shine without the sun
Nor can I be happy without the smile of the one
I love.
And as the night without the moon is a
terrifying place
So is the life that I would live if she were not
alive.
And as death cannot exist without life
Nor can I exist if she were dead.
And yet I may not reach her
For she has given her heart to another
The one whom I love is unreachable.
But this is another reason
If I am just to overcome one obstacle
To be faced with a new one
Then maybe nature desires us not to be together.
And would it be that my life is just to be
One huge pit of despair
One long day without the respite of the long,
Cool, sleep-filled night.
If this would be the way life goes
Then I hope that death will come
Quickly.

NAMIBIA
Rocky planes and planes and sandy dunes make up this fair land.
Trees are few, rivers scarce,
You’ll not find many lakes or dams in this land of sand.
The sea to the east is cold and rough,
To live in this land you must be tough.
The Herero, Ovambo and mostly German whites,
Enjoy blisteringly hot days and extremely cold nights.
Animals roam the sands, carefree,
To hunt the deer you must be stealthy.
Mystery enshrouds this segment of dry earth,
Yet surprisingly, to a multitude of life, it gives birth.
Crystals and precious stones there are aplenty,
In fact, walk on the beach and you might find twenty.
Life in the Namib Desert is a precious thing,
So be warned about the bite of a spider,
Or a scorpion’s sting.

Silence
The
Silence
Is scary
Yet no one speaks
Peacefully
Its mind
Sleeps
